Understand the basics of Peg Solitaire

Take a moment with Peg Solitaire before moving to another game. Leave a single peg on the English cross board. Keep the game area visible while you use its controls. Compare the starting position with the example in the Guide. Choose a clear next step rather than rushing through the instructions.

English 33-hole cross; central starting gap; any final single peg wins.

A small practice goal

Before your first action, say what you are trying to achieve. Then compare the result with the goal. Make the next step deliberately.

Your goal

Leave a single peg on the English cross board. An attractive position is not enough unless the goal is met. Start with a deliberate move.

From the start of a round

  1. Select a peg and an empty hole two squares away.
  2. Jump horizontally or vertically over one peg, removing it.
  3. Plan so remaining pegs can still interact.
  4. Undo repairs a deadlock.

Getting comfortable with the controls

Click or tap a piece and destination; use the turn indicator and legal-move feedback. A careful first action helps you become familiar with the layout. Check any mode label before starting.

See how the rules apply

Peg–peg–empty in one line permits one jump. Apply the same reasoning to the position in your own round. Check the stated objective.

Watch out for this

Diagonal jumps and pulling are not allowed. Check the rule before repeating the action. Watch the feedback after an action. A message can explain whether the input was accepted or whether a rule needs attention.
