Making your first moves in Dominoes

Dominoes gives you a focused activity to play in your browser. Empty your hand, or hold fewer pips when both players are blocked. Check the relevant rule before repeating a move. Identify the playing area and the controls you need. Use the example below to understand a decision.

Double-six draw dominoes, local two players with shared-screen visible hands.

Practice beyond the first move

Watch the feedback after an action. A message can explain whether the input was accepted or whether a rule needs attention. Refer to the controls when needed.

Aim for this result

Empty your hand, or hold fewer pips when both players are blocked. Keep that objective in view throughout the round. The example below illustrates a decision.

Follow these playing steps

  1. Play a tile matching either open chain end.
  2. Choose which end to use.
  3. Draw only when no tile fits.
  4. Pass only with no legal tile and an empty stock.

Using the playing area

Click or tap a piece and destination; use the turn indicator and legal-move feedback. Keep the playing area visible while using these controls. Check any mode label before starting.

One way to understand the rules

An open 4 accepts 4–2, leaving 2 open. Your next round may have a different position, so inspect it before acting. Verify the rule before continuing.

Avoid this misunderstanding

You cannot ignore a legal match to draw. Take a moment to reassess the position before continuing. Compare the worked example with your own position. Use the reasoning, not an answer copied from a different board.
